Most annual conferences have policies to protect children and youth from abuse in their ministry settings. Some policies include “vulnerable adults” under the same guidelines, using definitions as broad as “a person 18 years of age or older with physical, mental or developmental disabilities.” Few look at practical applications such as providing assistance with daily living tasks. This workshop will unpack the implications of these definitions and policies for children and adults with disabilities in camp and retreat settings. We will address vulnerability, safety, and impact on relationships. The outcome will be talking points participants can use to engage their annual conferences and boards in reflective development of policies and training programs.
