Pocono Plateau is a year-round Christian facility located in the heart of the Eastern Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains. The Plateau operates camp programs for the summer season, mainly in June, July and part of August. In the months surrounding summer we host our own events along with guest groups that come to the site for retreats, outdoor education, adventure/ropes programs, and day events.

The Assistant Director role is new and will be a vital part of the Pocono Plateau team. Responsibilities include program development and management, guest services, summer staff management, administration, and leading faith based activities and devotions. This role includes managing and facilitating the adventure programs, including zip line, co-operative high ropes challenge, climbing tower, and flying squirrel. Other program areas include archery, boating, slingshot, crafts, nature, and fishing. The Assistant Director should also possess good communication skills and be prepared to host guest groups, speak at churches, and lead devotions or bible studies.

Pocono Plateau provides private, on site housing, basic utilities, and meals during the summer and when guest groups are on site during retreat season. The position is exempt and includes health care, dental, vision, and pension benefits.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director will report to the Director and has responsibilities over several areas of operation across the camp and retreat center. The demands of this role will vary from summer camp season to retreat season. During summer camp, the Assistant Director will oversee and manage all programming across weeks of camp. During the retreat season, the Assistant Director will have broader responsibilities that include financial stewardship, revenue growth, and camp promotions.

The Assistant Director will: Provide safe and positive adventure challenge and outdoor education program for guests. This includes working with the Office Manager to coordinate programming for outside groups, expanding the existing nature center to provide year-round outdoor education, and properly maintaining facilities and equipment. Facilitate team building, bible studies, devotions, and prayer as needed. Interview and hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all program staff, lifeguards, and volunteers. Work with retreat guest groups to create schedules and build contracts. Manage program budget and define strategy to increase program revenue and grant funding. Assist in promotional activities such as speaking at churches or community events, social media and website maintenance, and hosting booths at career fairs. Engage in managing aspects of summer camp registration, camp store, volunteer coordination, and camp scheduling.

Maintain ACA Standards and PA State Inspection compliance.

General Responsibilities of Pocono Plateau Staff: Be a part of a local church, participate in staff meetings, and participate in site committee meetings. Perform retreat host responsibilities as assigned and assist other areas of camp as needed. Dedicate 1 day per week for lodge and meeting space cleaning during retreat season.

Be faithful stewards of Pocono Plateau property including supplies, physical property, and finances.

Full-time staff live on site on camp property. Housing, utilities, and meals during summer and when guests on site in retreat season are included as part of compensation.
