Job Title: Camp Director

Location: Camp Wesley, Bellefontaine, OH

Position Summary:

The Camp Director will lead and manage all aspects of our faith-based camp program, ensuring a high-quality experience for all campers while upholding the values and mission of The West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. This role is responsible for overseeing camp operations, including program development, staff management, budgeting, and ensuring a safe and enriching environment for all participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Management:
  • Develop and implement engaging, faith-based programming that aligns with the mission and values of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
  • Collaborate with Director of Camping and Retreat Ministry create a yearly camp schedule, including special events, activities, and spiritual development opportunities.
  • Ensure all programs meet safety, educational, and developmental standards.
  • Oversee programming and operations according to ACA standards including maintaining accreditation.
  1. Staff Management:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise camp staff, including counselors, volunteers, kitchen staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Supervise Maintenance and Facility Manager.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  1. Budget and Financial Management:
  • Collaborate with Director of Camping and Retreat Ministry, develop and manage the camp budget, ensuring financial sustainability and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Monitor and control expenditures, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including scholarships, grants, and benevolent gifts.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Implement and maintain camp safety protocols, including emergency response plans and risk management procedures.
  • Ensure regular inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure safety and readiness are completed.
  1. Community Engagement:
  • Build and maintain relationships with campers, families, and community partners.
  • Support the promotion of camp programs through marketing and outreach efforts, including social media, community events, and informational sessions.
  • Represent the camp, and the West Ohio Conference at local, regional, and national events as needed.
  1. Spiritual Leadership:
  • Integrate faith-based, United Methodist, principles into all aspects of camp programming and daily activities.
  • Provide spiritual guidance and support to campers, staff, and volunteers, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Theology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in camp management or a related role, with a strong background in faith-based programming.
  • Previous involvement and experience obtaining camp accreditations with professional organizations such as American Camp Association (ACA).
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience in recruiting, training, and supervising staff.
  • Strong organizational and financial management skills, with experience in budgeting and fundraising.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations related to camp operations.
  • Certifications related to camp operations such as food service management, open water life guarding, watercraft safety is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by camp schedules.
  • Up to date vaccination records.
  • Clear BCI/FBI background check.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with occasional exposure to inclement weather.
  • The role involves frequent interaction with campers, staff, and community members.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry equipment, as well as participate in camp activities.

Travel:

  • 30% travel, around Ohio

Salary Range/Compensation:  Base Salary $45,000, housing + additional benefits
