The Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church is seeking a Maintenance Workers at The West River Center, a 40-acre property along the West River with year-round accommodations for 220 people.  The successful candidate will work in all areas of maintenance and grounds keeping to ensure the site is safe, functional, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in all areas of maintenance and upkeep of the property including but not limited to:
  • Grounds care such as mowing, weed eating, weeding, mulching, snow removal, tree trimming, wood splitting
  • Cleaning and general maintenance of buildings
  • Electrical
  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Painting
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Shall recognize and correct any unsafe or dangerous situations for guests, staff or other users of the site.
  • Work with other maintenance staff on capital improvement projects during slower site usage periods.

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirement of position listed in job description.
  • Working knowledge in grounds care, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, and vehicle care.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and motorized vehicles.

This position requires a criminal background check per state requirements for Youth Camp Certification, pre-employment drug testing, and CPS Adam Walsh background check.

Salary Range/Compensation Package:  $17.00-22.00/hr.  This is a full-time, year-round, hourly position.  Additional benefits include: 403b retirement plan (employer contributes 12%), health insurance, life insurance, paid personal (2 days), sick (12 days), and vacation time (10 days starting), workers compensation insurance, short-term and long-term disability leave, bereavement leave, and family/medical leave.
