The Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to serve as Senior Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries for the Warren W. Willis Camp and Conference Center (WWCCC).  Our Camp and Conference Center is a place where faith, fellowship, and fun come together in the beauty of God’s creation.  We welcome campers of all backgrounds to grow spiritually and build friendships.  We are seeking a dynamic, mission-driven leader to oversee all aspects of our camp’s year-round operations.

This role is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, and program development to advance our mission of providing transformative Christian camp and retreat experiences.

About the Role

The Senior Director serves as both the chief operating officer and the heart of our ministry.  This position combines hospitality excellence with youth program leadership—ensuring that every camper, family, volunteer, and staff member experiences a safe, well-run, and spiritually uplifting environment.  This position will oversee all aspects of camp and retreat ministry, including programming, staffing, facilities management, financial sustainability, development, fundraising and community engagement. The ideal candidate will be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, a strong administrator, and a creative leader with a heart for ministry with young people and diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, including facilities, lodging, dining, recreation, and safety.
  • Lead a team of full-time staff, seasonal counselors, and volunteers.
  • Develop, plan, and deliver youth-centered programs aligned with the mission and vision of The United Methodist Church.
  • Ensure outstanding guest experience for both summer campers and year-round retreat groups.
  • Serve as the public face of the camp to churches, community partners, and families.
  • Lead the vision and growth strategy of WWCCC.
  • Oversee budget creation, revenue generation, and expense to budget management.
  • Manage facilities, land use, and physical assets.
  • Expand attendance and impact through marketing, sales, and outreach.

Qualifications

  • Active Christian faith and commitment to the mission of the United Methodist Church.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Proven operations management experience in hospitality, recreation, education, or similar fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Passion for working with youth.
  • Proven success in growing participation and engagement through innovative programming and marketing.
  • Strong financial, administrative, and facility management skills.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and fostering inclusion.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are open to candidates from multiple professional backgrounds, including but not limited to:

  • Hospitality & Resort Operations – Hotel general managers, resort managers, or guest experience leaders who want to bring their skills to a purpose-driven environment.
  • Parks & Recreation Management – Theme Park or attraction operations professionals, state/national park supervisors.
  • Youth & Nonprofit Leadership – YMCA directors, outdoor education managers, faith-based program leaders.
  • Other Relevant Fields – Retreat center management, event and conference coordination, cruise activity management, school or athletic administration, or military recreation services.

Work Environment

This role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, along with active participation in outdoor camp activities in varying weather conditions.
