Every other Wednesday on Zoom at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET
UMCRM Community Conversations are a free, regular, virtual opportunity to connect and learn together around topics that matter to United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministry leaders.
Natural disasters have become more prevalent and dramatic in the last number of years. They don’t come at convenient times, and can leave us feeling helpless and overwhelmed. Asbury Hills Camp and Retreat Center in the mountains of South Carolina got hit by Hurricane Helene, followed a few months later by the Table Rock Complex fire. Every natural disaster brings its own set of challenges. Come learn what our experience was like, how we prepared, how we responded, and how we recovered. If you haven’t considered a major natural disaster impacting your facility, you should. Gain ideas on how to better prepare your camp for potential natural disasters. Identify your primary support systems. Know whom to call. Don’t do it alone.
Chris Hulme has worked with Asbury Hills Camp and Retreat Center and South Carolina UMCRM since 2009. He has served in a variety of roles and is now the Director of Programs and Operations. Chris lives on site at Asbury Hills with his wife and three kids.
