The Environmental Education Program Coordinator is a full-time, year round position at Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center, Arapahoe, N.C. The Coordinator is responsible for directing and managing school programs for public and independent schools in a daily or residential setting that welcomes approximately 6,000 school children annually. Duties include marketing and outreach to area public and independent schools, securing and scheduling school groups, recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of seasonal staff (up to 12 per season), implementation of curriculum “Coastal Communities” which ties to state education objectives and “Common Ground” which utilizes the low challenge team building experience. In addition, the Coordinator supervises and trains staff on the care and use of the educational animals housed in the Environmental Education Center. This position is part of a year-round, core team that provides programming at the Center in residential summer camp, environmental education and retreats.

Qualifications: Minimum four year undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Marine Biology, Education or related field. Minimum 2 years experience in working in environmental education and/or outdoor education settings. Prior supervisory experience is a must. Summer Camp experience is a plus. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who has demonstrated good rapport with children, youth and adults. Strong team building and communication skills are needed. Certified in First Aid/ CPR or Wilderness First Aid is beneficial. Reports to: Director of Environmental Education & Operations
